By Air

Nearest Airport: Coimbatore Airport (CJB) - 127 kms from Kabini

By Road

Travelling to Kabini by car from Bangalore, Mysore, or Coimbatore is very convenient. Kabini is well connected by roads to various destinations in Karnataka. The route is very scenic and has proper sign boards.

The route from Bangalore to Kabini is via the NICE road through Mysore (Ramanagara, Maddur, Mandya, Mysore, and Anthare Santhe). The drive usually takes 4 to 5 hours. There are some good stopovers for food on the highway.

By Train

The closest station to Kabini is Mysore railway station, around 70km away. There are many trains which go to Mysore as it is a popular destination in Karnataka. From Mysore, bus or taxi can be taken to Kabini. It is approximately one and a half hour ride from the station. A private taxi for Kabini from Mysore costs around INR 1500.

The other railway station close to Kabini is the Bangalore station, almost 215km away. From Bangalore, bus, taxi or a private car can be hired.

Flora and Fauna

Elephants, Tigers and Black Panther are the main attraction of Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary has a good population of Elephants and Tigers. It also provides shelter to wildlife such as leopard, panther, sambhar, monkeys, bison, sloth bear, spotted deer, cheetal, antelope, crocodile and 350 species of birds. Birdwatchers come to Kabini forest reserve in droves, some armed with powerful cameras, as they try to identify and record the various bird species that call this place home. Over 350 species of birds have been identified around this pristine riverine landscape. Some of the birds that can be viewed around the lake include grey-headed fish eagles and ospreys. Great cormorants’ nest on the dry stumps of trees. During guided nature walks you can come across some of the more inland species like the Malabar Lark, Malabar trogon, Indian Pitta and the glorious Malabar pied hornbill.

Monsoon - Good time to spot spotted deer, sambar deer, etc. Temperature ranges around 30 degrees Celcius
Winter - Best time to visit Kabini. Temperature ranges between 8 to 25 degrees Celcius. December to February is also the best time for bird watching in Kabini.
